The primary purpose of Portals is to offer a pure, unfiltered window between distant countries, inviting people to meet above borders and differences. The artwork comes to life every day by people sharing a moment of connection; and much like humanity itself, Portal sculptures are more alike than they are different – they all have the same aesthetics and dimensions, no matter where on Earth they are located.
At the same time, Portals may be interpreted as a mirror on society that is co-owned by local communities and reflective of their local culture. While the front of the Portal always remains a pure and unobstructed window, the backside of the Portal provides a canvas for artistic and creative collaborations, making each Portal unique to their environment.
The Simpsons on Disney+ follows the chaotic, yet endearing, lives of the Simpson family and the residents of the fictional town of Springfield, known for its irreverent humor and satirical commentary on American culture - resonating with the Portals artwork, which similarly reflects society and reveals both our shared humanity and local character.
In a world’s first-of-its-kind collaboration, portals.org has teamed up with Disney+ to pay tribute to the beloved comic series, turning the rear side of the Portal into the iconic donut during a two-week activation in Dublin. In celebration of the new season launch of The Simpsons, visitors of the Portal received free donuts.
The project was brought to life through a collaborative effort by Dublin-based agencies Collectiv and Zenith Media, who created the concept and led its execution, alongside Disney+, Dublin City Council, and portals.org.
It marks a milestone for Portals in their intent to engage local communities, artists, and brands to co-create the global artwork through layers of creativity and artistic expressions in the physical world and online.
