Workshop description:

Rubrics are one of the most basic tools for measuring learning. They are used in assessing everything from jump shots to critical thinking. Rubrics are descriptive, so in addition to guiding assessment, they can assist students by giving clear, concise guidelines for levels of performance for learning goals.

Come to this workshop to learn how librarians can put rubrics to work measuring information literacy in a variety of venues and programs. From one-shot class visits to program evaluation, rubrics are an assessment tool that can help direct your teaching. Creating a rubric with a faculty member or on a team can bring increased understanding of classroom goals as well.

In this workshop you will build a rubric based on one of the ACRL information literacy standards and practice using it to assess student work. Workshop facilitators Sue Phelps  and Linda Fredrickson, librarians at WSU Vancouver, have taught an expanded version of this workshop at an ACRL pre-conference and will be teaching again in Seattle. Come get the basics right here in Portland.
